Graduate Medical Education (GME) research at Willis Knighton Health (WKH) in Shreveport is a vital component of the institution’s commitment to advancing medical knowledge and improving patient care. Here are some key aspects:
These elements collectively contribute to a robust GME research program at Willis Knighton Health, driving medical innovation and excellence.
In the first year of training, residents receive education in research methodology and medical literature review and engage in quality improvement, patient safety, cost of care and research activities in collaboration with a teaching faculty and resident peers. Residents are expected and encouraged to complete scholarly activity throughout their time in the program. The resident’s progress on completing the expected research project will be discussed and evaluated at monthly research meetings and during the semi-annual review with the program director.
In addition, the faculties and residents also demonstrate accomplishments in various educational domains such as research in basic science, translational science, patient care, or population health, peer-reviewed grants, quality improvement and/or patient safety initiatives, systematic reviews, meta-analysis, review articles, chapters in medical textbooks, case reports, creation of curricula, evaluation tools, didactic educational activities, or electronic educational materials, innovations in education as well as contribution to professional committees, educational organizations and editorial boards.
