Kathryn A. Gayle, MD, M.Ed., is an advanced cardiac imaging doctor who enjoys working with patients from the early steps of diagnosis to the later steps of treatment and intervention to develop a plan that best suits their individual needs. The specialty services she provides put Shreveport on the map in medicine, with another doctor who can provide the same expert services a three-hour drive away.
Welcoming patients by referral, Dr. Gayle collaborates with other cardiologists to help provide the most appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan for patients who have valvular or structural heart disease. Dr. Gayle’s advanced fellowship training includes echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography and cardiac MRI, as well as nuclear cardiology and cardiac CT. In other words, Dr. Gayle takes pretty pictures of the heart to help a patient’s entire care team better understand the cardiac pathology at hand. She provides imaging support for doctors before and during structural heart procedures and surgeries. Patients benefit from a better understanding of the diagnosis and possible treatment options so they can make informed decisions that align with their life goals.
A native of Shreveport, Dr. Gayle graduated from C.E. Byrd High School. She is a summa cum laude graduate of LSU in Baton Rouge with a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences and two secondary degrees in English literature and community nutrition. Dr. Gayle went on to graduate first in her class at LSU Health Sciences Center – Shreveport School of Medicine. At Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, she completed an internal medicine residency and a cardiovascular medicine fellowship. Dr. Gayle continued her training at Vanderbilt with a second fellowship in advanced cardiac and structural imaging. She simultaneously graduated with a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in teaching, learning and leading at Nashville’s Lipscomb University. Dr. Gayle is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease (American Board of Internal Medicine). She is the only doctor in Shreveport-Bossier City certified in cardiovascular magnetic resonance (Certification Board of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance).
When not analyzing pictures of the heart, Dr. Gayle enjoys Shreveport restaurants and nice walks with her family, friends and large golden retriever named Wylie. She also enjoys exercising on her Peloton bike. Her husband, Christopher Eldredge, is a CPA, and they have daughters named Rose and Kate.
