How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in applying to the Willis-Knighton Health System General Surgery Residency Program. Our program accepts applications only through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Each year we work to match three (3) categorical positions for our program. Applications are considered complete when the below documents are received in ERAS:

  • Common Application Form
  • Personal Statement
  • Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
  • Three Letters of Recommendation
  • USMLE and/or COMLEX Transcripts
    • We prefer to receive the Step 2 CK/COMLEX Level 2 CE score prior to interview, and must receive the score prior to the Rank Order List Submission Deadline
    • Step 2 CS/COMLEX Leve 2 PE has been discontinued and is not required.

In addition to the above items, current students and graduates of international medical schools must provide a verification of ECFMG Certification. We prefer IMG candidates who are within five years of their graduation from medical school. Our institution will sponsor J-1 visas to qualified individuals.

Applicants are selected for interviews after a thorough, holistic review of their qualifications. The application deadline for our program is January 31st. Our program participates in the AAMC ERAS Supplemental Application.

Interview Season

Our program conducts interviews each year between November through January, and offer interviews within the timeline established by the APDS Application Cycle Task Force. Interview invitations are sent to selected candidates via email and are scheduled through Thalamus. An applicant invited to interview for a resident/fellow position will be informed, in writing or by electronic means, of the terms, conditions, and benefits of appointment to the ACGME-accredited program, either in effect at the time of the interview or that will be in effect at the time of his or her eventual appointment. Information provided to applicants will include annual stipend, vacations, leaves of absence, and professional liability, health, disability, and other insurance accessible.

We do not accept any walk-in appointments or request for interviews. All applications must be submitted through ERAS, and all interview notifications are sent directly to candidates via email.
