  • What are you most looking forward to in your residency program? Looking forward to a broad spectrum of general surgery training including advanced minimally invasive surgery.
  • A fun fact about yourself: I was a JV and high school football coach before going to medical school.

  • What are you most looking forward to in your residency program? I am looking forward to one-on-one time with attendings, a mentorship model style of learning, and gaining minimally invasive operative experience.  I am excited to be an inaugural resident of the program and be a part of creating the culture of Willis Knighton Surgery Residency. 
  • A fun fact about yourself: I enjoy growing plants and gardening in my spare time. I also like to snow and water ski!

  • A fun fact about yourself: I’ve been surfing since I was 8 years old.

Carter Van Horn, MD

  • What are you most looking forward to in your residency program? I am most looking forward to applying all that I have learned to care for the people of Shreveport/Bossier while learning from the exceptional Surgeons at WKHS.

  • What are you most looking forward to in your residency program?  The unmatched, high-volume operative experience serving the people of Louisiana. The global surgery emphasis of the leadership. Being mentored by some of Louisiana's most well-respected surgeons. Having competent and happy co-residents. Oh! And the free food. I'm really excited about that!
  • A fun fact about yourself: I am the second oldest of 9 kids!

  • What are you most looking forward to in your residency program? Learning as much about medicine and surgery as possible so that I may provide the best care to my patients.
  • Fun fact: I am a former gymnast and nationally ranked competitive cheerleader.

  • What are you most looking forward to in your residency program? I am looking forward to extensive opportunities for mentorship, firsthand operative experience (particularly minimally invasive surgeries), and eagerness to actively contribute to surgical research. I am very much looking forward to learning alongside my co-residents and creating a unique environment for future students and residents passionate about General Surgery.

What are you most looking forward to in your residency program? I am most looking forward to the large amount of general surgery experience we get, the autonomy we receive in the OR with our surgery faculty, and the various minimally invasive surgical procedures that the surgeons partake here at Willis Knighton Shreveport!

Fun Fact: I have been sky diving before, and I love to go hiking with my dogs

What are you most looking forward to in your residency program? I'm looking forward to high volume early and often exposure to different surgical modalities as well as the opportunity to work one-on-one with attendings.

Fun Fact: I played D1 football in college
