Dr. Clifton Salmon, Jr., MD, is a highly respected, board-certified family medicine physician with 40 years of experience, proudly serving patients in his hometown of Homer, Louisiana. Recognized as Louisiana’s Favorite Doctor in 2023, Dr. Salmon is beloved by his patients for his compassionate care and dedication to making a meaningful impact on their lives and the broader medical community.
Dr. Salmon completed his medical education at Louisiana State University Medical School in Shreveport in 1985. He then underwent his residency and internship at E.A. Conway Regional Medical Center in Monroe, Louisiana. After completing his training, he returned to Homer, where he has devoted his career to patient care.
In 1996, Dr. Salmon founded Family Medical Clinic, which has since evolved into Homer Medical Clinic – a thriving rural health clinic affiliated with Claiborne Memorial Medical Center. Today, Homer Medical Clinic operates as a bustling practice with six healthcare providers. In addition to his work at the clinic, Dr. Salmon regularly serves in the Claiborne Memorial emergency room, rounding on inpatients and caring for nursing home, home health, and hospice patients.
Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Salmon frequently speaks at community events, promoting a wide array of topics including domestic abuse prevention, healthy aging, hunting safety, and chronic care. He enjoys spending quality time with his wife, Martha, and their adult children and their families. A passionate LSU fan, he and his wife frequently travel to Baton Rouge to support LSU Tiger football, basketball, and baseball. The Salmons also cherish their time at the beach.
